Update: July 11th, 2005:
WOW!!! Hurricane Dennis has turned the Spiegel Grove upright!
Nature has done what the salvage company and half a million dollars could not do almost 3 years ago. Just after the hurricane we went to take a normal trip out to the Spiegel Grove. We were really surprised when we couldn't find all the normal mooring balls, and just figured that the hurricane had ripped them off of the ship. We knew something was strange when we noticed that several balls where still there but were now under water. Much to our surprise, when we dropped in, things were just a bit different! She was sitting upright! Amazing what mother nature can do. NOAA has asked for a voluntary closure for about a week so they can study the stability and make sure it's safe to dive.
As of July 20th it's open again for diving! New pictures just below!
It's going to be a really different dive now. Each mooring ball will be at a different depth, so some areas will really be more advanced, while others will become easier for beginners. The deeper balls will be well below 90 feet, and the top of the ship should now be at right about 60 feet. Divers of all experience levels should be able to enjoy the wreck in it's new orientation. .If you've dove the Grove before, it's a totally new wreck now! Please come back and see us and we'll be happy to set up your trip to the "All new Spiegel Grove"! If you've never been diving on the Spiegel Grove, sorry you missed it on it's side, but don't waste another minute, come visit us and dive the world's largest shipwreck for recreational divers.

Update: Sept
23, 2003:
It's a little more than the 1 year anniversary of the sinking. We used to think the most amazing thing about the wreck was it's size. Though the coral growth is just beginning, It's really starting to impress us with how many schools of fish have taken up residence on the ship. The visibility has also been just stellar all summer and most of the fall so far, in fact I can't remember the last low visibility dive we've done on her. It's really getting to be a better and better dive every day. We all knew it was big, but we didn't count on finding our divers coming up talking about parts of the ship that we haven't even seen ourselves! Some of us have more than 50 dives on her already! Hard to believe there is still more to discover...
Update: Sept 1, 2002:
After diving
the Spiegel Grove all summer, we've had a chance to
see a lot of the wreck. It's so big it's literally taken
us all summer to really see all of it! You can get to
the wreck at 50 feet, and it's also got a lot of specially
roped off areas for easy penetration. If you aren't
big on wrecks, give this one a try, it might just convert
you. Because of it's diversity in depth, size and penetration
levels, it's a superb wreck to make sure you visit if
you are doing the Rainbow
Reef Wreck Trek or Wreck
Specialty class!
