We had fantastic conditions on the Duane this week. No current, 130 foot of visability and aquatic life everywhere. So I took advantage of this and played around with my camera, hope you enjoy them. Also, I had some free time and dove the Benwood wreck to see what I could do with Black and White photography. Not too bad for a rookie…

Diving has been great, so I’ll throw in a couple pics of some critters as well.

Safe Diving

Eric

Congratulations to Don Downingand Andrew Solomon, who both hail from Key West, Tom O. from West Palm Beach, and Gary Hammond from Mt. Dora, and Chris Adamsfrom Californiafor successfully becoming new PADI Instructors! This month we had 3 OWSI’s and 2 AI’s! Chris is a member of the Rainbow Reef Dive Center Intern program who was completing the next step in the program.Under the careful direction of Rainbow Reef PADI Course Director Ken Wilhelm, our candidates navigated the variouschallenges of Confined Water and Open Water presentations, skill demonstrations, and written examinationsduring the IE.The written examinations covered areas such as Physics, PADI Standards, and Equipment more! Additionally, ourcandidates had to exhibit a rescue demonstration involving an unconcious diver at the surface. Congratulations are also in order for PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Jason Nocks and Bill Findleywho completedthe IDC Staff Instructor course. As a part of his Staff Instructor courseJason and Billwere active in the preparation and evaluation of the candidates during the IDC. We have attached a few shots from the IE that we snapped as they were going through. Congratulations to all!

I bet that got your attention! Ok, Ok, so we don’t have our own TV show (yet…), but we did have some fun when a production company for FSN (Florida Sports Network) visited us as part of a show they were doing about getting certified.

They started with Austin’s Dive Center in Miami for gear, then took class with our good friend George Yates from Team Divers, and then George brought them down to Rainbow Reef for the checkout dives. It was a lot of fun to do it. Allison was the host of the show and she was very nice, the camera man was super cool and hilarious all at the same time (be sure to catch him in the outakes as the credits roll) and Nelson (the producer) was also avery nice guy and easy to work with.

Rainbow Reef and the staff are in the show quite a bit once they get down here to dive. They interviewed me (please be kind, I had a 101 degree temperature that day), shota little of the boats andCaptain Bill leaving the dock, Marci is in it as shegets Allison ready for a giant stride, and there are some flashes of other crew members here and there.

I’m putting up the longer version of the show first, and I’ll add theshort version later. On the long version, I took out the commercials and some of the equipment stuff at Austins, so we could get right to the diving! (also, it would have been too large of a file to fit on the webserver) Speaking of the diving, they had a really nice dive on the Benwood and also at French Reef. Nice conditions for first time divers! They didn’t have any underwater equipment so I was flattered that they asked me to do the underwater footage, which they actually used in theshow! The short version is actually different because it has some footage that didn’t make it in the longer version. They interviewed Timwho brought a group down from Athens GA, and some of our other customers.

You can see the show on FSN on Saturday 14th at 12:00 noon.
